Wolves out of the Cup

The Spireites made it through to the second round of the League Cup for the first time in four years and to boot it was via a penalty shoot out which victory had eluded the Spireites for the first time in 23 years.

Overall the Blues were the better team but were very concerned with Wolves breakaway attacks especially through ex-Tottenham player Rohan Ricketts. Our former Wolves player Colin Larkin was the main thorn in the side of the Wanderers defence and had a couple of snap shots in the first half and put over a great cross in the second for Derek Niven whose header was goalbound but for a tremendous save by the Wolves keeper.

Extra Time brought no major action although the rain was lashing down on the Wanderers supporters and at times I felt sorry for them but then again when you choose to stand on an open terrace instead of going into the Main Stand then you get what you deserve, and as for them singing a derogatory song about our ground, just hark back to the days when your ground had one stand and you couldn't afford to pay for Alan Birch.

Well my hunch is we shall play Derby at Pride Park for the next game, please god don't be Southampton on a Tuesday night. Do I have a right to be Picky?
