The 10-goal striker missed the victory at Cheltenham on Saturday due to a virus but could go straight back into the starting line-up at Meadow Lane.
Adam Rundle is nursing a minor knock from the weekend but the forward is expected to be fit.
Ahead of the game against the fifth-placed Magpies, assistant manager Tommy Wright said: "They've got quality players.
"They've got a goalkeeper in Kasper Schmeichel who can undoubtedly play at a higher level and a goalscorer in Lee Hughes who myself and (manager) John (Sheridan) know from working with at Oldham.
"But we know their weaknesses. We beat them at home earlier in the season and they were very complimentary about us. Hopefully we can get the ball down and play again and get our passing game going."
