The experienced centre-half has not played since the home defeat to Shrewsbury on January 2. It was hoped Breckin would be fit to face his former club Rotherham in midweek, but instead he was omitted from the squad and played in a reserve-team fixture.
He played 70 minutes for the second string before he was withdrawn as a precautionary measure with the game at Christie Park in mind.
Drew Talbot and Wade Small are making progress from ankle and knee injuries respectively but this game comes too soon for the forwards.
Blues boss John Sheridan is hoping to sign a player - most likely a left winger - in time for the game.
